Free entitlements for everyone! Food stamps, medicare, medicaid, TANF, HUD housing, the list goes on. I realize that some people are in a bad place and need TEMPORARY help to give them a hand up. That is one thing and I support those that need that help to get back on their feet. And charity has always been generous in generations past. But the government using taxpayers to fund "Free" phones, because you "need" a worry-free way to stay in touch? NO!
But now that the government wants to create an even more dependent state of people who have little or no incentive to work or to better their lives, let's make sure that everyone has a RIGHT to a Phone, not just the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Oh, and at the taxpayers expense. That would be the working Jane's and Joe's with a mortgage and a job who are just trying to make ends meet, with maybe something left over for a treat now and then, or a family vacation that is 30 miles away by car, and in a tent in a State run campground, that requires a $30 State Pass to stay there in addition to the campground fee.Yeah...

Let's see now...... my college daughter who is working her way through college and makes $1,000/mo. would qualify for a free phone. I don't think so. A phone is not a right and she has to work to pay for these extras. NO! People do not have a right to a phone! Next, everyone has a RIGHT to free transportation so they can travel where ever they want, free vet care because they need companionship, free clothes so they don't dress "poor" and the list goes on. NO! Live within your means, and don't expect to have more unless you work for it.
The government is TAKING away our country's human dignity, human strength, human creativity, human pride, human incentive to work, human pride, human discernment, human motivation, human compassion, human enthusiasm, human judgement, human critical thinking, human drive, human reason, and human's reliance on GOD for help and guidance.
I do not want the government GIVING me what I should be working and paying for on my own. We call that Communism.
Rose I agree with your post. 250 min is only 4 1/4 hrs for a whole month. My kids all have cells. they pay for them. They all are talking or texting 4 1/4 hrs every 2 days min.
ReplyDeleteThis is a way for the Gov't to see and hear who you are talking to.
Yes, Rob, I think you are right that it is a great way for the Gov't to spy on people.
DeleteRose I agree. our family does OK. We get the bills paid and have a little extra at times. Yesterday I got prescription cards in mail. You supposedly get up to 75% off when you refill a prescription. I tried to figure out if they were government related as the mailings came from DC. I know there is no such thing as a free lunch, someone, somewhere has to pay. I am throwing the cards in the garbage. There were even 2 extra I could give to friends....free...no strings attached.
ReplyDeleteMamma Bear,
DeleteI got this information in the mail as well and it also came with a form to give to a friend. I am so tired of the entitlement push. I think it really disengages folks from responsibility and accountability.
everyday it seems that the government is encroaching into our lives a little bit more. any day now i expect to hear someone on tv tell me "bless you" when i sneeze. i scoffed at the book "1984" and "Atlas Shrugged" back when i was in high school...never thought things would happen like they are...well, this gal has woken up and i dont want anything the governement has to offer either. i have been living life for the last three years plus as though i am a pioneer...and i know that i can take care of myself and my homestead without-i have learned to be self reliant and self sufficient.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading "1984" as well, and the ideas seemed so out there. But look at us now. Keep up your lifestyle and keep learning, it may be what saves you.
DeleteIn Florida now if you get unemployment the state wants you to get a state debit card so they can track your spending. You can have your own bank card, from Suntrust, BOA etc. but you can't use a prepaid card say from like Walmart or any other card.
ReplyDeleteWow! Kind of like an EBT card. I don't think most people realize just how much the gov't is watching, tracking and recording everything about our daily lives and habits. Scary.
DeleteWe had a house phone but cancelled it. If there's an emergency you can still dial 911 for free, even if you don't have phone service the 911 works. Our house phone is now a cell phone, which we all share. We have 400 minutes per month and I pay for it all by myself! Wow, what a concept!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you could have a land line where you could dial 911. Is there a tone when you pick up the handset? Do you just stay plugged into the wall just in case you need 911? I think I may have to look into this, as that is one main reason we don't want to give up our land line. Thanks for the info!
DeleteYou can even call 911 with a cell phone that doesn't have a plan that is charged. From what I have heard. Never tried it.
